LIXA VIVO PROJECT

THE PROJECT

With the support of the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Support, the Lixa Vivo Project wants to find out how many sharks there are in Paraíba and where they are. By protecting this species, we are saving all the species around them and also the habitat they live in. Through research and non-destructive methods, we will point out the need for Marine Protected Areas in the State.

With a flattened body, it got its name because of the rough texture of the skin and the way it swims by crawling close to the bottom of the sea. Generally friendly and calm, with nocturnal habits, it spends most of the day motionless due to its ability to pump water through its gills and breathe even when not swimming.

When born, the young are about 30cm long, and are covered with black spots all over the body. Their teeth are adapted for suction feeding, meaning they don't need to tear food apart like most sharks do. They usually eat lobsters, small fish and even some rays.
